Last week I attended my first ever derby — I even had to wear a hat! Technically, it was the Atlanta Steeplechase, but hey who’s checking? It was so far away from the city (in Rome, Georgia to be exact) and I of course got lost. I was literally driving for miles before I came across a gas station. And when I pulled over to ask for directions, the man that I spoke with was deaf. I am not making this up! He signed which direction I should go in and read my lips as I relayed it back. We were both very pleased that we understood each other so easily. (That’s my funny story fyi!)
As I drove onto the Steeplechase grounds, I could see the hills in the distance and they just went on and on. One thing that I’ve grown to love about Georgia is all of the greenery. It was a rainy Saturday in Atlanta, but luckily the rainfall didn’t get to Rome. I had a really good time at Steeplechase, especially considering that I was there because of work. I was able to walk right up to the barricades and get some really nice shots of the horses. Also, I’m getting a little better at taking photos if I do say so myself. Check them out below!
