There are very few things I love more than witty Twitter hash tags and celebrities. So when I found out that Hillary Clinton was coming to my school in Clinton, I was ecstatic because, you know, #clintoninclinton. Another popular hash tag was also #thehillatthehill because my school is literally on a hill and one of Hillary’s (we’re on a first name basis, you know) nicknames is the Hill. I know. Amazing, right?
Seeing the former Secretary of State was one of the most memorable moments of my life, and I’ve had some pretty great ones. The event was held last Friday in the Field House at my school and over 3,000 people showed up, which is saying something since my school only has 1,800 students.
The talk began at 6:30 p.m., but I got in line at 4:00 in order to get great seats and I would say the fifth row wasn’t half bad!
The stage was huge and there was a big pit/gate separating the seats from Hillary, but that’s okay!
Even though seeing her was enough joy for 95% of the people in the audience, Mrs. Clinton had a few things to say.
Some of the key points of her speech were:
- Gridlock, growth, and global leadership are all interconnected in America’s present that will impact the future
- “Women are like teabags. We don’t know our true strength until we are in hot water!” One of Hillary’s favorite quotes from Eleanor Roosevelt
- Whenever you’re in a bind, just quote Winston Churchill. He has some great quotes.
- The United States is an indispensable nation, even if we are facing some tough times at the moment
And here’s Hillary inspiring all of us.
Hillary also recognized specific Hamilton students that are impacting the community. She even recognized my friend who interned at Steve Madden this summer and also built a children’s library in Haiti. Hillary couldn’t be any more of an amazing person (in case you couldn’t tell that I love her).
