LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics Review: Rose Jam Shower Gel & Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner

I first heard of LUSH Fresh Handmade Cosmetics when the story of how one unlucky user dyed her skin a florescent pink circulated around the internet last year. At the time, I thought, I’m definitely going to stay away from that product.

Well imagine my surprise when I came across the LUSH Rose Jam Shower Gel & Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner in my medicine cabinet! Apparently, one of my sisters received them as gifts a while ago but never got around to using them. So, I decided to take it upon myself and give them a try. 🙂

The first time that I used the LUSH products was after a long day at the beach. The instructions for the Rose Jam Shower Gel read, “Get naked, hop in the shower and lather up”. It sounded easy enough. So I popped open the bottle that it comes in and took a whiff. I normally don’t like the smell of roses, because I thought they really smell like poo-oo-oo-oo…

Shout out to OutKast

But I was pleasantly mistaken! The shower gel has a light fragrance that does smell like roses but in a feminine way, not in an old-lady way. I tried to lather it on and was disappointed when it didn’t sud up the way that I thought it would. I realized that it was because I still had a lot of salt on my body from the beach, so after a quick rinse and reapplication, it was perfectly sudsy.

Next up was the skin conditioner. I have to admit, I’ve never heard of such a thing. It’s loaded with ingredients like argan oil, cocoa butter, brazil nut and more so it had to be good, right? It was! There were some lofty claims on the jar though:

TOP TIP: Using this replaces the need to moisturize after bathing.

Challenge accepted.

silly puttyI opened up the jar and the first thing I thought was that it looks like silly putty. I say this in the most loving way possible — I only have good childhood memories of the stuff! The consistency of the conditioner was a bit watery but still with some substance. I could immediately tell that different oils and butters were used to make it.

I smoothed it all over and after a few minutes, I rinsed it off. It kind of felt like it left a slight layer on my skin. As I stepped out the shower to pat myself dry, my skin immediately felt very soft. I wanted to see how long I could last without going about my normal post-shower routine which includes applying copious amounts of avocado or jojoba oil all over.

After about 30 minutes or so, I felt like my skin was still soft and smelled lovely, but it wasn’t as moisturized as I would’ve liked. So I caved and added my avocado oil and all was right with the world.

So what are my final thoughts on the LUSH Rose Jam Shower Gel & Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner? I like it. If you’re looking for something to replace the need to moisturize after your show, I’m not sure this is it. But if you’re looking for something to slather on to smell nice and have soft-feeling skin, then this is for you!

And best of all, you won’t turn florescent pink after using it.
