We could all use a little bit of magic in our lives. So, we created Magic Moments where we round up some of the best tidbits of female empowerment and general awesomeness of the week. Check it out!
We’re obsessed with awards shows. You’d think we were nominated in every category. The toughest trophy winner for this week’s Golden Globes was for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Tracee Ellis Ross, Rachel Bloom, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Sarah Jessica Parker, and (of course) Issa Rae were all nominated and they are all hilarious. But, Tracee Ellis Ross was an amazing choice and absolutely deserved it. And who else can say they’ve won a Golden Globe 44 years after their own mother?
This song didn’t come out this week but it’s the first we’ve heard of it. It is seriously amazing. The combination of Leslie Odom, Jr.’s velvety smooth voice and Sara Bareilles’ haunting lyrics ring more true even after the election. We literally have this song on repeat. Take a listen and try not to cry over the state of our democracy.
There have been countless moments that the Obamas have made us proud. This week has been especially full of them. From President Obama’s earnest farewell address, his surprise for Vice President Biden, First Lady Michelle Obama’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon, the First Couple rapping along to Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message” during ABC’s ‘Taking the Stage’ Highlights African Americans’ Contribution to American Culture… we’re going to miss this administration.
